Special Agent (SA) Kathia Colón has served with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for 19 years. SA Colón started her career as an Intelligence Analyst working national security matters at the FBI’s Counterterrorism Division located in Washington, D.C., where she focused on International Terrorism, Al-Qaeda threat. She later became a Special Agent and was assigned to the FBI San Francisco Division, Joint Terrorism Task Force, where she investigated sovereign citizen/right wing extremists for seven years. SA Colón provided training to local police departments regarding history, ideology and modus operandi of sovereign citizen extremists.


SA Colón served on FBI San Francisco’s white-collar squad for three years, where she investigated numerous complex financial crimes such as money laundering, investment fraud, insider trading and health care fraud. SA Colón was a member of the Health Care Fraud and Elder Fraud Task Forces led by the US Attorney’s Office of the Northern District of California. SA Colón transitioned assignments to cross-programmatic human intelligence collection matters where she recruited and handled informants in support of all FBI programs for three years. SA Colón later worked Cyber National Security investigations where she focused on intrusion matters and obtained her GIAC Certification.


Most recently from 2020 to 2023, SA Colón was a member of the FBI San Francisco’s Safe Streets Task Force where she investigated criminal gangs and violent crimes. SA Colón partnered with members of the San Francisco’s Police Department’s Community Violence Reduction Team (CVRT) in a pro-active collaboration to disrupt criminal gang activity resulting in numerous criminal prosecutions.


In November 2023, SA Colón was selected to represent the FBI as a coordinator for the FBI San Francisco Private Sector Engagement Team where she serves as a conduit between the FBI and private sector partners to collaborate in matters of joint interest and provides insight based on her diverse investigative background.
